Baking Steps
- Preheat the oven to 350ºF (175ºC) and grease two 9-inch round cake pans with butter, dusting with cocoa powder.
- In a stand mixer, combine the dry ingredients: flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt. Mix on low speed for 1 minute.
- Add the wet ingredients: eggs, buttermilk, melted butter, and vanilla extract. Mix on medium speed for 30 seconds, then scrape the bowl and mix for another 15 seconds until smooth.
- Gently fold in the hot coffee into the batter until everything is well combined.
- Pour the batter evenly into the prepared pans and bake for 25 to 35 minutes, checking for doneness with a toothpick.
- Cool the cakes in the pans for 15 minutes, then transfer them to a cooling rack to cool completely before frosting.
- Frost the cooled cakes with your desired icing and serve.
