Baking Steps
  1. Preheat the oven to 350ºF (175ºC) and grease two 9-inch round cake pans with butter, dusting with cocoa powder.
  2. In a stand mixer, combine the dry ingredients: flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt. Mix on low speed for 1 minute.
  3. Add the wet ingredients: eggs, buttermilk, melted butter, and vanilla extract. Mix on medium speed for 30 seconds, then scrape the bowl and mix for another 15 seconds until smooth.
  4. Gently fold in the hot coffee into the batter until everything is well combined.
  5. Pour the batter evenly into the prepared pans and bake for 25 to 35 minutes, checking for doneness with a toothpick.
  6. Cool the cakes in the pans for 15 minutes, then transfer them to a cooling rack to cool completely before frosting.
  7. Frost the cooled cakes with your desired icing and serve.
