Step-by-Step Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (177°C) and line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
 - In a medium bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
 - In a large bowl, beat the softened unsalted butter and powdered sugar until fluffy. Add the egg, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract.
 - Gradually incorporate the dry ingredients into the butter mixture until combined. Rest the dough if too sticky.
 - Divide the cookie dough into two halves; use food coloring to tint one half for Sally's cookies.
 - Shape Jack's cookies by scooping jagged dough balls on one baking sheet, and shape Sally’s clustered dough on the other.
 - Bake the cookies for 8-9 minutes until the edges are set. Let them cool on the baking sheet.
 - Prepare the vanilla buttercream frosting by beating the unsalted butter, powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla until smooth.
 - Once cookies are cool, pipe on buttercream and detail with black icing or melted chocolate.
 - Allow the decorated cookies to set before serving at your Halloween gathering.
