Preparation Steps
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (177°C) and grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.
  2. Open the cinnamon rolls and flatten them slightly, then arrange half of the rolls in the greased baking dish.
  3. Bake for about 10 minutes until slightly puffed.
  4. Beat the cream cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract until smooth. Fold in whipped topping gently.
  5. Mix the apple pie filling with cinnamon and nutmeg if using, stirring until well combined.
  6. Layer half of the apple mixture over the base, then half of the cream cheese mixture. Repeat with remaining mixtures.
  7. Top with remaining cinnamon rolls, pressing down gently.
  8. Cover with foil and bake for 25-30 minutes, removing foil in the last 5 minutes to brown.
  9. Let cool slightly, then drizzle with caramel sauce and serve warm.
