Ingredients:

• 2 cups all-purpose flour
• 1 cup granulated sugar
• 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
• 2 eggs
• 1 cup strong brewed coffee, cooled
• 1/2 cup buttermilk
• 1 teaspoon baking powder
• 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
• 1/4 teaspoon salt
• 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
• 1/4 cup chopped hazelnuts

For the Coffee Buttercream Frosting:

• 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
• 2 cups powdered sugar
• 2 tablespoons strong brewed coffee, cooled
• 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Directions:

. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
. In a mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
. Add in the eggs, one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
. In a separate bowl, sift together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, alternating with the buttermilk and brewed coffee. Mix until just combined.
. Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans and smooth the tops with a spatula.
. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
. Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes before transferring them to wire racks to cool completely.
. Meanwhile, prepare the Coffee Buttercream Frosting by creaming together the softened butter, powdered sugar, brewed coffee, and vanilla extract until smooth and creamy.
. Once the cakes are completely cooled, spread a layer of Coffee Buttercream Frosting on top of one cake layer. Place the second cake layer on top and frost the top with the remaining frosting.
. Sprinkle the halved hazelnuts over the top of the frosted cake.

. Slice, serve, and enjoy your delicious Coffee Cake Layer with Coffee Buttercream Frosting and crunchy hazelnuts!
