Ingredients

For the Salted Caramel
  • 1 cup Granulated Sugar or brown sugar for a deeper flavor
  • 1/4 cup Cold Water
  • 1 cup Heavy Whipping Cream or half-and-half for a lighter option
  • 1/2 cup Salted Butter or unsalted with a pinch of salt added
  • 1/2 teaspoon Sea Salt for salted flavor
For the Krispy Treats
  • 4 cups Miniature Marshmallows or chopped regular marshmallows
  • 6 cups Rice Krispies Cereal or any puffed rice cereal
  • 1 cup Dried Apple Pieces or fresh apples
  • 1 cup Salted Caramel homemade or store-bought

Equipment

  • Medium saucepan
  • Large saucepan
  • spatula
  • Baking pan
  • Parchment paper

Method

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. In a medium saucepan, combine granulated sugar and cold water over medium heat. Stir gently until the sugar dissolves and reaches a golden amber color, about 10 minutes. Remove from heat and incorporate salted butter and heavy whipping cream, stirring continuously. Add sea salt and set aside to cool.
  2. In a large saucepan, melt salted butter over low heat. Add miniature marshmallows and stir constantly until completely melted and smooth, about 5 minutes. Then pour in a cup of prepared salted caramel, mixing well.
  3. Remove from heat and gently fold in Rice Krispies cereal and dried apple pieces using a spatula.
  4. Line a baking pan with parchment paper, pour in the Krispy treat mixture, and use a spatula to evenly spread and press down. Cool for about 20 minutes, drizzling additional salted caramel on top once slightly set.
  5. After fully cooling for about 30 minutes, cut into squares or rectangles with a sharp knife and serve.
