Step-by-Step Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a large skillet over medium heat, brown 1 pound of ground beef until fully cooked, about 7-10 minutes.
- Stir in 24 ounces of marinara sauce, 1 teaspoon of garlic powder, and ½ teaspoon of dried oregano into the skillet.
- In a mixing bowl, combine 15 ounces of ricotta cheese, ½ cup of grated Parmesan cheese, ¼ cup of chopped fresh parsley, and 1 beaten egg.
- Take a large loaf of Italian bread and cut it lengthwise in half. Hollow out the insides, leaving about ½ inch of bread around the edges.
- Layer your fillings by spreading half of the ricotta mixture, followed by half of the ground beef mixture and half of the mozzarella cheese.
- Place the top half of the bread over your layered fillings, sealing it like a sandwich.
- In a small bowl, combine ½ cup of melted butter with 2 minced garlic cloves and brush this mixture generously over the top of the loaf.
- Wrap the entire loaf in aluminum foil and bake for 20 minutes.
- Uncover the foil and continue baking for an additional 10-15 minutes.
- Once baked, let it cool for a few minutes on a cutting board, slice, and serve warm.
