  • ¼ cup Vegetable Oil can be replaced with melted coconut oil
  • ½ cup Brown Sugar light or dark works well
  • 1 ¾ cups Hot Water use very hot for gooey layer

Method
 

Baking Instructions
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare an 8-inch square baking dish by greasing it with butter or non-stick spray.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt. Whisk until well blended.
  3. Pour in the milk, vanilla extract, and vegetable oil. Stir gently until the batter is smooth and free of lumps.
  4. Spread the batter evenly into the prepared baking dish.
  5. Sprinkle brown sugar and additional cocoa powder over the batter.
  6. Carefully pour hot water over the top of the mixture without mixing it in.
  7. Bake for approximately 40 minutes until the top forms a crust and the batter is set.
  8. Allow to cool for about 10 minutes before serving, ideally with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
