  • 1 small Red Chili Pepper Optional for heat
  • 1 cup Basil Leaves Can use mint or cilantro
For the Dressing
  • 3 tablespoons Tamari (low sodium)

For Garnish
  • 2 tablespoons Toasted Sesame Seeds Optional based on preference
  • 1/2 cup Crispy Fried Onions Optional

Equipment

  • Steaming basket
  • Mixing bowl
  • whisk

Method

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Start by steaming the frozen gyoza dumplings according to the package instructions, usually for about 8-10 minutes. Lightly coat the steaming basket with sesame oil to prevent sticking.
  2. While the dumplings are steaming, prepare the dressing by combining tamari, balsamic vinegar, and maple syrup in a bowl. Whisk until well blended. Once the dumplings are done, drizzle the dressing over them and toss to coat.
  3. Chop the heirloom tomatoes into wedges, slice the cucumber into thin rounds, and finely chop the scallions. If using, slice the red chili pepper. Add the veggies to the bowl with the dumplings and toss everything together.
  4. Tear fresh basil leaves over the top for an aromatic touch. Sprinkle with toasted sesame seeds or crispy fried onions for added crunch.
  5. For optional add-ins, consider enhancing your salad with sliced cabbage, grated carrots, or edamame for more nutrition.
