  • 1 can Canned Tuna Drained, water-packed is best
  • 1 cup Breadcrumbs Panko or crushed crackers can be used
  • 1 cup Cheddar Cheese Shredded; can substitute with Swiss or Pepper Jack
  • 2 tablespoons Mayo Optional; Greek yogurt can be used instead
  • 1 large Egg Acts as a binder; omit for vegan option
  • to taste Spices Red pepper flakes or preferred spices
For Serving
  • 4 slices Toasted Bread or English Muffin
  • 2 cups Fresh Salad A light side salad

Method
 

Cooking Procedure
  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine drained tuna, breadcrumbs, shredded cheddar cheese, spices, and a beaten egg. Mix until well incorporated.
  2. Shape the mixture into patties approximately 1 inch thick and place them on a plate. Refrigerate for 15-20 minutes.
  3. Heat oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add the chilled patties and fry for about 4 minutes on each side until golden brown.
  4. Optional: Place a slice of cheese on each patty during the last minute of cooking and cover to melt.
  5. Transfer the cooked patties to a serving platter and enjoy them as is or on toasted bread with a fresh salad.
