• 2 cups pitted dates
• 1/2 cup water
• 1 cup rolled oats
• 1 cup all-purpose flour
• 1 cup brown sugar
• 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
• 1/4 teaspoon salt
• 3/4 cup unsalted butter, melted


. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×9 inch baking pan.
. In a saucepan, combine the dates and water. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer until the dates are soft and the mixture thickens (about 10 minutes). Remove from heat and let it cool.
. In a separate bowl, mix the oats, flour, brown sugar, baking soda, and salt. Stir in the melted butter until well combined.
. Press half of the oat mixture into the bottom of the prepared pan to form a crust.
. Spread the date mixture evenly over the crust.
. Crumble the remaining oat mixture evenly over the date layer.
. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the top is golden brown.
. Allow it to cool completely before cutting into squares.
